The ECDL was introduced in May 1998 and is a comprehensive, and thorough, computer training programme that aims to provide individuals with a formal qualification that is recognised throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. Its aims are: - to raise the general level of competency in IT
- to improve productivity at work
- to enable employers to invest more efficiently in IT
- and to ensure that best practice & quality issues are understood & implemented
The syllabus for ECDL has been created to cover key concepts and their application in the workplace. It consists of seven modules, all of which must be passed before the ECDL certificate can be awarded: - Module 1 - Basic Concepts of IT
- Module 2 - Using the Computer and Managing Files
- Module 3 - Word Processing
- Module 4 – Spreadsheets
- Module 5 - Database/Filing Systems
- Module 6 - Presentation and Drawing
- Module 7 - Information Network Services
