4. Changes to Wave Boot Camps & Structured Study Courses

From July 2005 Wave Technologies are replacing their Cisco Boot Camps with a new, but more expensive "Wave Now" online learning system with Finishing School.

5. The Latest on Certification Exams

CIW Exams...

CIW Foundation exam 1D0-410 was retired at the end of January 2005 and has been replaced by exam 1D0-510. Course information...

CompTIA Exams...

The Linux+ exam XK0-001 is being retired on 31 July 2005, but the new exam XK0-002 is available now.

Network+ exam N10-002 will be retired in 90 to 120 days time, but N10-003 will be available from 1 May 2005.

A new Server+ exam SK0-002 is now available.

Cisco Certified Voice Professional - CCVP validates skills in implementing, operating, configuring and troubleshooting a converged IP network. It focuses on Cisco Systems CallManager, quality of service (QoS), gateways, gatekeepers, IP phones, voice applications, and utilities on Cisco routers and Cisco Catalyst switches. "This certification recognises the increased importance placed on IT professionals of today who are responsible for integrating voice technology into underlying network architectures. Individuals who earn a CCVP certification can help create a telephony solution that is transparent, scalable, and manageable." (Quote from Cisco)

Candidates are required to pass five exams.
Valid CCNA certification is a pre-requisite.

The exams and courseware for this new certification from Cisco are not yet available, but we'll let you know as soon as they are.

IBM/Lotus Certification...

There are now four certification programs offered by Lotus Software:

• IBM Certified Associate
• IBM Certified Professional and IBM Certified Advanced Professional
• IBM Certified Associate Instructor
• IBM Certified Instructor

Each has different requirements:

• Notes and Domino 6/6.5 Certification Paths
• Collaborative Solutions Paths
• Workplace Certification Paths

IBM/Lotus have dropped the R5 exams and now only offer certification routes for R6/6.5. They have also renamed the certifications to "IBM-ise" them.

Microsoft Exam Re-sits...

Microsoft announced free exam re-sits worldwide up until 31 May 2005. This offer is limited to one retake per exam and must be at the same test centre, although there is no limit on the number of different exams to which this applies. Retakes must be completed by 30 June 2005 and candidates need to register at a Prometric or VUE test centre.

Oracle 10g Upgrade Exam...

Oracle are planning to introduce an 8i to 10g upgrade exam - we'll keep you informed.

6. News Bytes

CDL Rules Clarified...

The DfES clarified that to be eligible for a Career Development Loan you must be ordinarily resident in Great Britain and have an unlimited right to remain in the United Kingdom. You must also intend to work within the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway on completion of your course.

Also as of 1st April 2005 responsibility for Career Development Loan (CDL) programme transferred from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to the Learning and Skills Council (LSC). As a result all references to DfES should now be taken to mean the LSC. All contact numbers, including the CDL Information Line (0800 585 505), remain the same.
