Product Recommendations
We like to recommend products that we have personal experience with. This month we would like to recommend the following wireless networking products and broadband routers designed for small businesses. We use these products ourselves -
3Com & ZyXEL
Both suppliers make a great range of wireless networking products and broadband routers suitable for small businesses.
3Com in particular make the excellent OfficeConnect range which we use extensively ourselves in our office network. We find their products are reliable and perform well.
We use a ZyXEL Prestige ADSL2 Voice-over-IP broadband router to handle all of our Internet access and our office telephone service, so our whole business depends on it performing well and reliably.
Both these suppliers cater for corporations and industry and their small business products benefit from performing better and being more secure than some of their cheaper mass market rivals which are targeted at the domestic market.
We feature some of these products in our online catalogue, but you will be referred to our partner Misco to make an actual purchase.

QuickBooks Warning
Intuit has issued a warning for QuickBooks users. A bug inadvertently included in a QuickBooks update released in December, has caused documents and financial files to be deleted from PCs.
A fix has been released by Intuit, but users of the 2006 Mac edition should be especially wary since the bug can re-manifest itself when a PC is used in a public WiFi hotspot. Users are recommended to contact Intuit.
More details can be found here.

Regulatory & Other Updates
Each month we will feature some of the recent regulatory updates or other important news affecting small businesses:
Capital Gains Tax Revision
Hot off the press is the news that the Government seems to have taken on board the advice following pressure from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and has revised its original proposals for reforming Capital Gains Tax.
The revised proposal would see a 10% rate of CGT on the first £1M of gain rather than a flat rate of 18%.
