PC and Mortar BoardImportance of Skills in a Recession

Today, having the right skills has never been so important. With the current economic downturn we are all concerned about what the future holds, both for our businesses and for ourselves. We are entering a recession, but when does it bottom out? What will the impact on our livelihoods be? When will the economy recover?

We cannot answer those questions but we do know the importance of having the right skills at a time like this.

For individuals...

...improving skills enhances employability.

With large companies cutting their staff overheads and making significant layoffs, the job market is going to become flooded by potential candidates for those companies that are still recruiting. So with fewer opportunities for employment and with more candidates for prospective employers to choose from, you need to be able to differentiate yourself from the other candidates.

One way to do this is to make sure that you have the skills that companies are looking for. If a company is presented with two candidates of equal ability and experience, they are more likely to choose the candidate that already has the skills needed for the job rather than spend money training someone up to do it.

We have the courses to help you at very affordable prices.

Also many people who become unemployed may be considering starting in a new career. For those considering a career in IT we have a special feature this month on the Paths to IT Certification.

For businesses...

...improving staff skills boosts productivity and helps you to achieve more for less.

In this tough economic climate, pressure on keeping down costs and overheads has never been more important. Staff need to be more effective and businesses need to operate more efficiently. A business has to work smarter and get more out of its resources or it risks losing business to those of its competitors who can operate "leaner and smarter".

Will your business be able to do more for less?

Let us help you unlock the full potential of your workforce.

     - Paths to IT Certification

There are many routes to achieve IT Certification and many starting points depending upon your experience. We have listed some of the most common scenarios below:

Absolute Beginners should consider starting with our courses about Computer Basics, then gaining accreditation with the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) before moving onto any of the other areas below.
Those seeking Microsoft Office Certifications can gain accreditation with our Microsoft Office Specialist courses.
To become a Computer Technician consider starting with CompTIA's A+ Certification.
To become a Network Professional consider starting with CompTIA's Network+ Certification, before moving on to Cisco's Certified Network Associate (CCNA) & Certified Network Professional (CCNP) qualifications

To become a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) consider starting with Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technical (MCDST), then progressing to Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) and then Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).

While aspiring Developers should consider Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) followed by Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD).
